INSTRUMENT PILOT COURSE

PREREQUISITES:

Possess a private pilot's certificate and a third class medical certificate.

Leading edge aviation divides the elements of flight instruction into four phases of preparation for your FAA Instrument Pilot Rating.

PHASE 1

  • Pre-flight and additional cockpit checks
  • Instrument scan
  • Timed Turns
  • Equipment Failure: Partial Panel
  • Unusual Attitudes
  • Precision and non-precision altitude adjustments
  • Power settings

    Goal: Flight by sole reference to instruments.

PHASE 2

  • VOR/NDB/Localizer/Glideslope-Intercept and tracking
  • IFR Communications
  • Approaches: non-precision, precision, procedure turns, holds, and missed approaches

    Goal: Proficient instrument approaches

PHASE 3

  • Cross country Flying
  • Flight Planning and route selection
  • DP'S and STAR's
  • Emergency procedures
  • Weather

    Goal: Application of instrument flight principles.

PHASE 4

  • Review and refining of items in phases 1,2, and 3

  • Preparation for FAA Instrument Pilot Rating Exams

    Goal: Obtaining your instrument rating

INSTRUMENT PILOT COURSE PRICES

In order to introduce and inform you of the costs of attaining your instrument pilot certificate through Leading Edge, we have prepared the following table.  

Our basis is an averaging of previous students (This is an estimate not a guaranteed price).  Of course, general aptitude and the number of hours logged each week will effect each individual student. (Prices are subject to change without notice)

PREREQUISITES:

You may begin your instrument certificate studies at any time after attaining your private certificate. There are pre-requisites that must be satisfied prior to taking the instrument check ride. 

The following are published minimums:   

  • 50 hours post-private certificate cross-country time
  • 40 hours simulated or actual instrument time
  • 15 hours of the above 40 hours must be with a CFII.  

Leading Edge Aviation accepts cash, Visa/Master Card, American Express, Discover, and approved personal checks. Leading Edge does not require its students to have funds on account. Students may "Pay as they Go" using the above methods of payment or place funds on account.

GROUND SCHOOL EDUCATION

Leading Edge Aviation offers a formal instrument ground school, which is taught by certified FAA Flight Instructors. Schedules for each class series are posted in the dispatch area and are taught on either a once or twice a week.

If your schedule does not permit you to attend our ground school classes you can receive one on one instruction from your instructor and supplement your learning with Leading Edge video library.

FLIGHT LESSONS

The length off an average flight lesson encompasses 2 hours with approximately an hour in the aircraft. Your instructor will discuss items of importance prior to and after the flight.
